Buying fishing equipment

For fishing equipment, there is fishing mastery, fishing rods, and bait.

It's easier to catch fish if you have bait. I'll (Rodbal) be happy to sell you some. It smells like rotten lizardman feces, but does the job. Fish must have the world's worst sense of smell. I tell you…

Preparation for fishing

Before you start fishing, you need to learn fishing skills and equip the fishing rod.

Like other skills, you can right click on the skill book in the inventory window to learn fishing mastery. And you can equip the fishing rod like you equip other weapons.

To use the bait, you need to right click on the bait in the inventory window. For convenience, place the bait in a Quickslot.

Starting fishing

Since you're all ready to start fishing… not here, moron! You have to find a suitable location where you can fish. Um… look for fish. Like in water, you know? That would be a good start.

Once you arrive at a fishing spot, click on the fishing icon on the lower right corner of the screen. Or press (L). The cursor will turn into a fishhook. Then, click the cursor over the water.

If that doesn't work, try equipping the fishing rod. I (Rodbal) have to tell you everything, don't I?

You can't cast from too far away, so be as close as possible to the water when you click.

About casting

When you cast, the casting window will appear on the screen. Casting means working the rod and waiting until the fish takes a bite.

As I (Rodbal) told you before, using the bait will increase your chances. On this screen you will see a green bar increasing. When this bar nears the end and the screen switches to the fighting window, then the casting was successful.

About fighting

After a successful casting, the fighting window will appear. You will see 2 bars.

The top bar refers to the durability of the fishing line. The one below refers to the HP of the fish.

If the line holds until the fish's HP is drained all the way, youll [sic] catch it. In order to do that, you need to pull or release the tension appropriately.

To pull on the rod, press and hold the left mouse button or the Space Bar. To release tension, release the key. If you keep on pulling on the rod, the fish will resist. The HP bar changes to red when the fish resists, but just before color, the fish will shake a little. That's a good time to release tension on the rod. If your fishing line is strong of course, you don't have to let go.

About the fish you catch

When you catch the fish, it'll show up in your inventory.

You can sell the fish to the shop, or use it as a potion. Since it is used like a potion, you can place it on the Quickslot and use it with the shortcut keys.
